Date de décès : 12 février 2016
It is with great sadness that we, the family of Shirley McKinnon, announce her passing on Friday, Feb. 12, 2016, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born Dec. 5, 1933, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Stella (McNamara) MacKenzie.
Shirley spent her childhood in Dominion, where she developed a lifelong passion for sports, fishing and the “shore”. A 1954 graduate of St. Joseph’s nursing program, she spent her entire nursing career at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Glace Bay, which lasted over 30 years. A woman of strong faith, she was a member of Immaculate Conception, St. Anne’s and Holy Cross congregations.
Shirley is survived by her three daughters, Michele Bresson, Sydney, Darlene (Roddie) McNeil, Glace Bay and Karen (Abbie) Michalik, Glace Bay; two sisters, Myrna Stone, Port Hawkesbury and Elizabeth 'Betty' Morrison, Dominion; niece, Kathy Bresson (Darrell), Glace Bay; beloved grandchildren, Jainey, Roddie, Angela, Krystal and AJ; great-grandchildren, Matty and Jack, and was also anticipating the arrival of a new great-grandchild in the spring.
She was predeceased by her stepmother, Mamie (Proctor) MacKenzie; three sisters in childhood, Rachel, Pearl and Mary; brother, Francis MacKenzie; brothers-in-law, David Stone and Tommy Morrison; son-in-law, Cameron Bresson and baby, Judith Ann in infancy.
Shirley will always be remembered by those who knew and loved her for her quick wit and sense of humour.
A very heartfelt thank you to the staff of 3B for their excellent care and to her dear friend, Patsy Hall for her wonderful companionship. Words cannot express our gratitude.
As per her request, there will be no visitation. A private service and interment will take place at a later date.
