Mary Veronica Ferguson, 97, passed away on Feb. 27, 2016 at Seaview Manor Home for Special Care in Glace Bay, N.S.
Born in Glace Bay, she was a daughter of the late Ronald and Catherine (MacGillivary) MacIntosh.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Charles, and was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was also predeceased by six sisters, Bessie MacKinnon, Peg Haley, Francis Crosby, Jessie MacKenzie, Theresa MacKay and Sadie Sehl, along with three brothers, Joe, John and Stephen.
At the age of 18, Mary travelled to the Boston area to help her sister, Peg, raise her three children. Later, Mary moved to Toronto where she worked for the Eaton Company. After more than 20 years in Toronto, Mary and Charles relocated to the Boston area. There she held a variety of jobs and finally retired from the Gillette Company. After retirement, Mary and Charles moved to St. Catharines, Ont., where they spent many happy years. Following the death of Charles, Mary returned to Glace Bay where she created many more happy memories with family members and continued to spend many winters in Florida.
Mary had a great love for, and dedication to, friends and family.
She was predeceased by many cherished friends and is survived by numerous, loving nieces and nephews throughout Canada and the United States of America.
Mary’s love of life and ability to tell a joke will not soon be forgotten. She could light up a room with her beauty, smile, and infectious personality.
Thank you to the Newfoundland ladies and the staff of Seaview Manor for providing care to Mary for the past seven years.
There is no visitation by request. Cremation has taken place under the care and guidance of Curry-Neville Funeral Home, 775 Main St., Glace Bay. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 2nd, at St Anne’s Church, Glace Bay. The interment will be at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens at a later date.
