James Harold 'Hal' Dorrington, 83, passed away peacefully March 10, 2016 in the Mira Long Term Care Centre, Truro.
Hal, as he was known by everyone, was a man of God and loved his Lord. He was ordained a minister of St. Phillip’s African Orthodox Church, Sydney and was a member of Zion Baptist Church, Truro where he was part of the Men's Brotherhood. Hal enjoyed music and loved to sing. One of Hal's proud moments was when he was a member of the Zion Baptist Church Quartet and represented Nova Scotia in our Nation’s Capital on Parliament Hill as part of the Canada Day Festivities hosted by Alex Trebek. Hal was best known around the town of Truro for his gift of music accompanied by his trusted guitar. An avid fisherman, Hal enjoyed fishing the brooks of Nova Scotia. It was there that he found his peace and enjoyment. Throughout his life, Hal was employed with the Sydney Coke Ovens and was a Chef at the former Keddys Inn, Truro and later on as a building Superintendent. Hal was always willing to help whenever he could, often providing drives for those who had no other mode of travel. Hal was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend and he will be missed by all who knew him.
Hal leaves behind siblings, Henrietta Hines (Et), Betty Tynes (Bet), Osbin Paris (Honky), all of Truro, Arthur Dorrington (Art), New Jersey, Yvonne Spencer (Vonnie), Peggy Este, Gladys Innis and Arden Innis, all Ontario. Children of his immediate family, William Dorrington (Billy), PEI, James Dorrington (Jim), Nunavut, Tracey Dorrington-Skinner, Truro, Lizette Dorrington (Denise), Krista Borden, British Columbia and Kim Tynes, Halifax; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.
