Mildred Ruth MacKinnon

Mildred Ruth MacKinnon

Mildred Ruth MacKinnon (formerly Millie Gencheff) passed peacefully on Saturday, March 26, 2016, at Provincial Palliative Care Centre in Charlottetown, PEI.
She is preceded in death by her sisters, Florrie and Betty, her brothers, Albert and James Urville (Jimmy) MacKinnon, her parents, Urville and Elizabeth (nee Hussey) MacKinnon, and her youngest son, Jason Todor Gencheff.
She is survived by sons, Ronald Bruce MacKinnon (Brenda), John Gordon Allen, and Christopher Nelson Gencheff and her sister, Isabel MacCormick; grandchildren, Ashley, Samantha, Maggie, Brennen, Luke, Emily, and Michael; great-grandchildren, Finley and Addy.
Millie was born in Charlottetown on January 14, 1946. She married Gary Gencheff (d:1999) and lived in and around Toronto; Montreal; Chicago; and Madison, Wisconsin. In the 1970's she was active as a Teachers Assistant, Den Mother (Scouts), Hockey Mom, and Lay Chaplin. In the 1980's/90's she worked as an EMT and Real Estate Agent and after that, a Teachers Assistant at Mt. Horeb High School. In 2000, she realized a dream by setting up a cottage in Canoe Cove and reconnecting with many friends. Millie took great pleasure in seeing others enjoy themselves, and was often the ringleader in organizing social happenings for friends or family, such as a MacKinnon family reunion at her cottage during 2012, or a helping rally her friends and working to organize the 60's dance - a high school reunion of sorts...which many of her friends still talk about with smiles in warm remembrance. Millie was a talented soul. She could do many things well...from picking up a guitar and strumming a tune, writing poetry and short stories, painting, crafting beautiful pottery, talking philosophy, to coaxing food from the earth with her gardening skills and turning it all into a gourmet and healthful meal! Millie was as comfortable at a Barn Dance as at the Symphony. She touched many people with her love, kindness, and friendship. Her sons, grandchildren and great-grandchildren are grateful to have been blessed by her love, guidance and wisdom. Heaven is a better place now that Millie is there.
Her sons wish to express their most sincere gratitude to PEI Home Health and the attentive, caring, and loving staff at Provincial Palliative Care. Thank you all for taking such good care of our Mother.
Resting at MacLean Funeral Home Swan Chapel. Funeral Sunday from Calvary Church at 3 p.m. Interment later in Lot 16 Cemetery. If so desired, memorials to Camp Gencheff or the Salvation Army would be appreciated. Visiting hours Saturday from 4-7 p.m.
