BLAND, RICHARD
Richard Lewis Bland, loving husband of Marguerite (Love) Bland, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Cloverhill, Kings County, NB on September 19, 1920 he was the son of the late Arthur and Dorothy (Meech) Bland.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brothers Eric Bland and John B. Bland; sister Lorna Hawke.
Lewis was a Veteran of WWII serving as a Gunner with the 3rd Field Regiment. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 69 and the seniors bowling league. He was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed watching boxing. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, going for drives and spending time with his family.
In addition to his loving wife of 69 years, Marguerite, he is survived by his sons Reginald Bland (Jean) and Christopher Bland (Sadie) both of Saint John; daughters Cheryl Nelson (Phillip) of Oromocto and Judith Hawkes of Saint John; eight cherished grandchildren Tamara, Todd, Amie, Christopher, Shawn, Leanne, Laura and Ashley; six great-grandchildren; sisters Sylvia LeBlanc of Toronto, and Dorothy Bland of Saint John; several nieces and nephews.
Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424) with visitations on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A tribute to a Veteran service will be held at the funeral home on Friday evening at 6 p.m. The funeral service will be held from Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, April 2, 2016 at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Fernhill Cemetery.
