Marie Walsh

WALSH, MARIE VITALINE DOUCET
June 4, 1928 to March 30, 2016
Deeply loved and very much missed Mary passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 30, 2016.
Throughout their 53 years of marriage Mary was cherished by her husband Joseph Vernon Walsh (Joe) who left us on November 8, 2001. What a great love story they shared- one of great mutual respect, and steadfast devotion to each other, an example of devoted love.
Mary inspired, and created an everlasting bond with her seven children (Joe – predeceased, Helen) Nelson (Theresa), Ricky, (Carol) Cathy, (Dave Lifford – predeceased), Danny (Kerry), Donna (George) Rose and Lisa Walsh (and her baby John who died at 6 months of age). Nanny was so loved by her grandchildren, Shelley, Scott, Jay, Lindsey, Michelle, Jennifer, (Sheila – predeceased) Shauna, John, Jeffrey, Tommy, Jamie, Colin, Jacob and Anthony and spent many joyous times with all of them. She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren They all felt her LOVE and knew they had a special Nanny. Born in Saint Louis de Kent NB, to Lina (Chevarie) and Oscar Doucette, Mary left her homestead in 1941 to come to Saint John to help out her family and work. How she loved her brothers and sisters. Deceased Alfreda, Aline, Nazaire, Pat, Larry and Jack and surviving by Anais, Lillian, and Ruby.
Mary was very proud of what she considered her accomplishments, raising her family (how proud she was of her children), and learning to drive a car that gave she and Joe freedom to travel in retirement. Such fun they had and learning the English language.
Mary was a woman of faith and had such compassion for others. She prayed for everyone. We believe our mom was given a special task on earth and that was to spread LOVE. She touched many people’s hearts during her lifetime and treated everyone with respect and loving kindness.
She spent the last 6 years at Shannex in Quispamsis as her family watched Alzheimer rob her of her memory. Despite that she continued to spread her love to her caregivers and residents.
Visitation will take place at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) on Friday 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 pm. A funeral mass of thanksgiving and remembrance will be held on Saturday, April 2 2016 at 11:00 am, St. Peters Catholic Church, 50 Clarendon St, Saint John. Interment to be at St Joseph’s Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society.
Condolences and memories for the family may be offered at www.Brenansfh.com.
