Collins, Merlyn Bernell
Merlyn Bernell Collins, loving companion to Helen Titus, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 1, 2016 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in Parrsboro, NS on September 8, 1939, he was the son of the late Thornton and Sarah (Brown) Collins-Yorke, New Caanan NS. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his granddaughter Alayna Collins.
Merlyn was a graduate of the Nova Scotia Normal College, a member of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers Local 73 for many years; a Lieutenant in the North Nova Scotia Highlanders Militia and a Nova Scotia Blueberry Farmer. He was an avid NASCAR fan, especially of Dale Earnhardt Sr. and a member of AA for 26 years. He will be sadly missed.
In addition to his loving spouse Helen he is survived by his children Bernadette Stewart (Gordon), Sherry Matheson (James), Lee (Cori) and Aaron (Myrna); grandchildren Anna, Craig, Kiera and Stella; step grandchildren Chad and Heather; brothers George (Joyce) and Corlas (Arlene); several nieces and nephews.
Resting at Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road, Saint John (646-2424) with visitations on Sunday and Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held from Fundy Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Fernhill Cemetery. Remembrances in memory of Merlyn may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the charity of the donor’s choice. www.fundyfuneralhome.com
