SOUTHERN, Guytha M. – age 104, of Port Maitland, Yarmouth Co., NS passed away on April 10, 2016 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born on March 3, 1912 she was a daughter to the late Budd M. And Mary J. (Doucet) Gavel. Guytha was a member of Rebekah Assembly IOOF and Port Maitland Rebekah Lodge. She was also a member of the Bayview Baptist Church in Port Maitland. She is survived by her daughters, Gail (Owen) MacDonald, Whitby, ON and Sylvia (Allan) Colleran, Oshawa, ON; grandchildren, Kevin, Todd, Kelley, Kimberley, Sharon, and Shawn; and six great grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family and predeceased by her husband, Arthur; son, Grant; grandson, Trevor; sisters, Bertha, Annie, Frances; brother, Arthur; half sisters, Josephine, Adeline, Beatrice; half brothers, Edgar and Arnold. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. Visitation was held Wednesday April 13, 2016 from 7-9 P.M. in Sweenys Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service was held Thursday, April 14, 2016 at 2 P.M. in Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. Donald Moses officiated. Interment was in Port Maitland/Beaver River Cemetery.
