GODFREY, DOROTHY ALMA ROSLYN
Dorothy went to her final resting place on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at the age of 94. She was the wife of William Robert Godfrey of Saint John for 72 years and was the youngest daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. C. W. Titus. Dorothy was born in Saint John on May 2, 1921 and at a very early age had moved with her family to Moncton.
Dorothy graduated from Moncton High School in 1939 and furthered her education in Boston, where she graduated from the Academy of Hair and Cosmetology. While in Boston she enjoyed singing in the Temple Street Baptist Church Choir. Before her marriage she owned and operated her own business. In 1944, Dorothy married William and they had two sons, Grant and Douglas. While her family was young, Dorothy was a stay at home mom; although she continued to be very active in community affairs. She was president and life member of the YMCA Ladies Auxiliary, president of the Marion McKendrick Group of Centenary Queen Square Church, president of the King George Home and School Association and president of the Kinette Club of Saint John. Dorothy was also a member of the Centenary Queen Square United Church Choir and also taught Sunday school. She was very active in sports; having been a member of the St. Andrews Curling Club, Riverside Golf and Country Club and had enjoyed modeling in many of the fashion shows for various stores throughout the city. Dorothy and Bill thoroughly enjoyed their cottage in Clarendon, where they went in the winter months to enjoy skating, skiing and tobogganing and in the summer months Dorothy loved to work among her many flowers. After they both retired they enjoyed their winters in Florida.
She is survived by her husband, William; sons, Grant (Beverly) of Saint John and Douglas (Lynne) of Banff, AB; granddaughters, Andrea Flynn (Eric) of San Diego, CA, Trisha Fitzgerald (Peter) of Saint John and Southorn Godfrey of Toronto, ON; great-grandchildren, Cole and Luke Fitzgerald, Ethan, Braden and Camille Flynn.
She was predeceased by her sister, Alberta Laws.
Although there will be no visiting, family and friends are invited to attend the funeral service, which will be held from Brenan’s Funeral Home Chapel, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424) on Friday, April 22, 2016 at 2:00 PM. A private interment will take place in Fernhill Cemetery.
