LOEWEN, ELWYN
Elwyn Donald Loewen, 66, passed away peacefully at home in Moncton on Tuesday. Known and loved for his steadfast presence, wise advice, generous heart and wry sense of humour, Elwyn was an incredible father, husband, brother and friend. He will be sorely missed and dearly remembered.
Born in Central Butte, Saskatchewan in 1949, the son of farmers and the third of seven children, Elwyn grew up in the quiet town of Eyebrow, Saskatchewan and was educated at Rosthern Junior College and the University of Saskatchewan. After joining the Canadian Armed Forces at the age of 21, Elwyn was trained as an air traffic controller and was posted briefly in Shearwater, NS before he ultimately landed a job as a controller in Moncton, New Brunswick, where he retired after 40 years of service.
A self-taught carpenter and all around handyman, Elwyn took great pride in his homes, building projects, and yards. An enthusiastic traveler, he also loved the sun and the outdoors – whether barbecuing on the back deck, bird-watching or golfing.
He is survived by his loving wife Danielle Richard; children Emily (Curt Russell) and Nathaniel from a previous marriage to Christine (nee Casas); grandchildren Thomas and Annie Russell; brother Duane (Lisa); sisters Phyllis (Bill) Kiss, Marlene (Dan King), Myrna (Frank) Gallagher, Lynette (Dale) Gregor, and Bernice (Gary) Johnson, as well as many nieces and nephews and cousins.
He is predeceased by his father Henry and his mother Sophie (Friesen), and an infant son, Jacob.
In keeping with Elwyn`s wishes there will be no visitation or funeral service. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
