Anna Kathleen Mann

MANN, ANNA KATHLEEN "KAY"
Kay was born to Bridget Helen Loggie and Joseph Daniel Mann April 21, 1915 in Loggieville, NB. She died Sunday, April 24, 2016 at The Moncton Hospital.
Kay was predeceased by her parents; her sister, Eunice; her brothers, Aloysius, Kevin, Michael, Harold and Robert.
She is survived by her sister, Rita Bohan of Moncton; her sisters-in-law, Anne Mann of Moncton, Joyce Mann of Bathurst and many nieces, nephews and their families.
Kay received her early education in Newcastle, NB. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School and continued on to St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing in Montreal, Quebec. While in Montreal, she contracted tuberculosis. After a lengthy recuperation and recovery at home in Newcastle, she returned to Montreal and completed her studies to become a Medical Librarian. She was never down again. Kay lived and worked in Montreal, Vancouver and Oakland, California. She retired to Kelowna, BC, French River, PEI, Bradenton, Florida and Moncton, NB.
To her many nieces, nephews and their families, she was a special aunt who always sent the Christmas parcel, delivered by mail, in mid-December. Aunt Kay’s Christmas parcel was the first tangible evidence of the many delights of the season to come. The excessively well wrapped presents were impenetrable, although many small fingers tried and failed to get an undetected sneak preview.
Kay was the aunt who traveled to exotic places; she came “home” in the summer with the latest records which provided the musical backdrop to our summer vacations. She was the aunt who took us all to the beach and helped us learn to swim. She had a collection of beautiful bathing caps. She swam the “Louise Manning’” stroke for miles and then took us for ice cream on the way home. Kay took a great interest in each and every one of us.
She was always up to date with the many changes in the world she lived in and through. Kay had an easy laugh, a quick wit and a fierce determination. How else could you live to celebrate your 101st birthday!
The family would like to thank Dr. Elizabeth McCaw, the team at NB Extra-Mural and a cadre of dedicated caregivers too numerous to mention.
A Funeral Mass to celebrate Kay’s life will be held at St. Bernard’s Roman Catholic Church, 43 Botsford St., Moncton on Monday, May 2, 2016 at 1:00 pm with Rev. Allison Carroll officiating. Reception in the Parish Hall following the Mass. Arrangements entrusted to Fergusons Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995).
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Kay can be made to St. Bernard’s Roman Catholic Church or the Friends of the Moncton Hospital.
