BELLIVEAU, FLORENCE EMMA
November 29, 1916 – May 1, 2016
Florence Emma Belliveau, 99, Amherst, Nova Scotia, passed away peacefully at Cumberland County Regional Health Care Centre, on Sunday, May 1, 2016. She was a native of Dorchester, New Brunswick, being the daughter and eldest of six children of the late Fabian and Marie (Bourque) LeBlanc
After completing her schooling in Dorchester, and at the convent in neighbouring Saint Joseph, Memramcook. Florence came to Amherst, in 1935, finding work at Abram's clothing store and then worked at Two Barkers department store. While at Abrham's, Florence, who did not know Emile at the time sold him a suit. On June 15, 1943 Emile wore this suit to marry her.
After raising her family, Florence returned to work in 1964 at Barker’s after it had, by then, become Margolians. At Margolians, she worked in the dry goods department until retirement in October 1987.
Florence was the widow of Emile Belliveau, who died in November 2014 after they had been married for over 71 years. Besides being predeceased by an infant daughter at birth in 1948 and by infant son Joseph at birth in 1955, they were predeceased by their daughter, Irene (David) Melanson in 2000.
She was a devout and faithful member of St. Charles Church (later becoming part of Holy Family Church) in Amherst. In connection with the Church, she was a member of The Catholic Women’s League. For her years of dedication to the League, she was recipient of the Maple Leaf Service pin. In December 2015, she was presented with her 60-year membership pin. The Catholic Women’s League, Card Club, Monday Night Ladies Bowling League, and the regular card games she and Emile took part in with their friends, as well as the time spent with their trailering friends, were her most enjoyable social activities.
In her later years, Florence was cared for with extreme love by her daughters, Ann and Louise for which the rest of the family will be eternally grateful.
Surviving are her daughters, Anita (Glen) White, Amherst, Ann Belliveau and Louise Belliveau, both of Amherst, Phyllis (Bill) Mills, Truro, NS; sons, Peter Belliveau, Amherst, and Paul Belliveau (Michelle), Bridgewater, NS. Surviving, as well, are 15 grandchildren, Paula, Holly, Kimberley, Kelly, Brian, Amie, Andre, Karen, Kate, Andrea, Michael, Joanne, Dennis, David and Heather, as well as 19 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are her sister Doris Duguay, Saint John, NB, brother Fred (Marge) LeBlanc, Coral Springs, Florida, U.S.A., brother Francis LeBlanc (Bernadette), Coventry, Connecticut, USA, sister-in-law Corinne Porter, Amherst, son-in-law David Melanson, Trenton, Ontario, and, as well, many special nieces and nephews.
She was also predeceased by her brothers Leo LeBlanc and Camille LeBlanc; sisters-in-law Beatrice LeBlanc, Melina LeBlanc, Pauline LeBlanc, Edna Belliveau, Florence Belliveau and Phyllis Belliveau; and brothers-in-law Abbey Duguay, Lucien Belliveau, Gerald Belliveau and Paul Belliveau.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and 7:00 to 9:00 PM, with parish prayers at 8 p.m. all in Furlong-Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church Street, Amherst, NS B4H 3B2, Tel. (902) 667-8777. and the funeral on May 4, 10:00 AM, at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Amherst, NS. Interment will be in St. Charles-Nativity Cemetery, Amherst.
