Verne Van Buskirk, of Sarnia, Ontario, and formerly of Moncton, passed away January 4, 2016 at the Bluewater Health Center, at the age of 91.
Born September 26, 1924, he was the son of the late James and Elfie Van Buskirk of Sunny Brae.
Verne was a veteran of WWII, having served with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders during the liberation of Holland.
Before his retirement, he was the founder and president of Van’s Shoe Inn, with retails outlets in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.
For many years, he was a member of the Moncton Golf and Country Club and the Beaver Curling Club.
After his retirement, he and wife Gladys became Snowbirds, wintering at their home in Sebring, Florida, and spending summers at their cottage in Canon Croft, near Shediac.
Verne also became an accomplished wood carver, creating beautiful works that he gave to family and friends.
He will be sadly missed by his son, Mike, of Little River, Albert Co., his daughter, Kim, of St. John; grandchildren Tanya, Craig, Robin and Stacey, as well as his five great grandchildren.
Verne was predeceased by his wife Gladys, brothers Norman and Bonar, and a sister, Mildred.
Cremation has taken place and interment will be in Fair Haven Cemetery July 12, 2016.
