It is with broken hearts that we the family announce the passing of our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Ernest ‘Ernie’ William Parsons, 64, passed away peacefully Friday, June 24, 2016 surrounded by his family.
Ernie was born in Louisbourg to parents Robert and Bridget (Williams) Parsons.
Ernie is survived by his wife Lorraine (Mosher); daughters, Michelle, Christine and Madeleine; sons-in-law, Jimmy de Vries and Rodney MacKeigan and his grandchildren Zachary and Hannah MacKeigan and Emily de Vries who were his pride and joy; sisters, Alice Divito, Georgina Lahey, Roberta (Herman) Wadden, and brother-in-law Roy (Ronna) Mosher as well as cousins, nieces, nephews and Vesta.
In addition to his parents Ernie was predeceased by brother Michael and brothers-in-law Tony Divito and Clem Lahey.
Ernie was a Red Seal Carpenter which took him to many parts of Canada. He worked for Parks Canada in Banff for a number of years before returning home in 1989 when he established E.W. Parsons Construction. In 1993 he opened Mariner Hardware and Building Supplies Ltd.
In 1999, with partners, he opened the Lobster Kettle Restaurant and the following year the Louisbourg Marine Museum He was also instrumental in establishing the Louisbourg Lighthouse Trail. In most recent years Ernie was employed in Nunavut where he enjoyed the work, the people and the culture. Wherever he worked he made life-long friends.
Ernie had a great spirit of adventure and loved to travel. His special interests included curling, local history, western movies and he was a music buff. Ernie had great pride in his family, loved them very deeply treasuring every minute of his time with them.
In keeping with Ernie’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, ‪June 29, 2016 at 2 p.m. in the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, ‪564 Alexandra St., Sydney, with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating.
In memoriam, donations can be made to Cape Breton Cancer Centre (Patient Care Fund), Palliative Care, VON or Canadian Red Cross.
