Joyce Gregg

GREGG, JOYCE MARY ISABEL
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Joyce Gregg, loving wife of the Venerable Arthur Gregg, announces her passing which occurred peacefully on Friday, June 24, 2016 at Bobby’s Hospice. She was born in Saint John on November 28, 1936, a daughter of the late James Morley and Katherine (MacNaughton) Carson.

Joyce spent a year at Mount A, before training at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal. Following her marriage, she served with her husband Arthur in the parishes of Canterbury, McAdam, Nashwaaksis and Saint John Lancaster. After taking several years off to raise her children, she retrained in Nursing and worked in Psychiatry at the DECH in Fredericton. She earned a certificate in Social Work from St. Thomas University, and after moving to Saint John, worked as a counselor at Family Services and Gentle Path, from which she retired in 2001. Her retirement was spent in Grand Bay Westfield, where she enjoyed painting, gardening, yoga, travel, and the quiet of nature. Her life was enriched by her beloved pets. She was known for her hospitality, kindness to all, positive outlook on life, a wonderful sense of humour and the occasional belly laugh!

In addition to her husband, Arthur Gregg of 54 years, Joyce will be missed by her children Cam Gregg of Ottawa, Dr. Kathy Toogood of Edmonton and Margie Gregg of Saint John; two granddaughters Alanna and Sarah Toogood, and their father, John Toogood; a sister–in–law, Aldra Carson (the late Don); as well as several nieces, nephews and friends.

Joyce was predeceased by her parents; first husband, Dr. Hugh Dentith; her sister Jean Lamb (Murray); brothers, Rex (Grace), Jack (Lois), Dr. Don (Jane) and Bill (Marma) Carson.

Resting at Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB (634–7424) with visitation on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 from 4 to 7pm. A celebration of Joyce’s life will be held at the Church of the Resurrection, 20 Macdonald Avenue, Grand Bay–Westfield on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at 11:00 am. A private interment for family will take place at Fernhill Cemetery.
