Lionel McCaie, 95, of Manoir Notre Dame, Moncton, passed away at the Dr. Georges–L.–Dumont University Hospital Centre on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 following a brief illness. Born on January 15, 1921 in Moncton, he was the son of the late Henri McCaie and the late Florence (Thibodeau) McCaie.

Lionel worked as an aircraft and auto mechanic for many years before joining the Area School Districts as a Transportation Supervisor. Prior to his retirement at age 65, Lionel worked as an Oil Burner Repair Technician with Esso Home Comfort. He and his loving wife Cécilia enjoyed traveling together, spending time with family and friends, and playing cards. He had a great passion for music and enjoyed watching baseball. Lionel was a well–respected family man who always had a smile for everyone he met, and he will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.

Lionel is survived by his four children: Terrence (Mary Gallant), Gloria Wallace (Gérard Richard), Paul (Juliette) and Diane, all of Moncton; six grandchildren: Neil Wallace, Steve Wallace, Ryan Wallace, Paul McCaie Jr., Ryan McCaie and Tracey McCaie; two great–grandchildren: Brooke and Cameron McCaie; two sisters: Adrienne Gauvin of Shediac, and Marguerite Ferguson of Toronto, ON, as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Cécilia née Daigle (1998); three brothers: Gérald, Réginald and Rodéric McCaie; two sisters: Florence and Camillia McCaie.

The family will receive condolences at the Frenette Funeral and Cremation Centre, 88 Church Street Moncton (858–1900), Visiting hours on Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. only. The funeral mass will be celebrated at Ste–Thérèse Roman Catholic Church, 160, Ste–Thérèse Street, Dieppe, on Saturday, July 9th at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Dieppe. The Veterans will hold a service of remembrance at the funeral centre on Friday at 4 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, in memory of Lionel, a contribution to the CHU Dumont Foundation “Palliative Care Unit”, or to a charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated. Words of comfort and donations may be sent at:
