It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James ‘Jim’ Jackson Roper of Ingonish on July 11, 2016, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Ingonish, Dec. 11, 1928. He was the son of the late Percy and Georgina (Jackson) Roper.
He is survived by Thelma, his wife of 60 years; daughters, Audrey (Winston), Sue (Rick), Wendy (David), Valerie (Darrell), all of Ingonish, and Angela “his Angie girl” at home; son, Raymond (Susan) of Middle Sackville; eight grandchildren, Julia, Andrew, Courtney, Lindsay, Carissa, Brittany, Lucas, Zachery and one great-granddaughter, Matilda. Jim is also survived by his sister, Blanche of Sydney; three nieces, Doreen, Sharon, Pam and one nephew, David.
Besides his parents, Jim was predeceased by two brothers, Carl and Henry.
Jim was employed at Cape Breton Highlands Golf Course until his retirement in 1994.
The family would like to offer a special thank you to the staff at the Emergency Department and the Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, the staff of MacGillivray Guest Home and the Victoria County Home Care Providers.
There will be no visitation. A private funeral service will be held for the family on Thursday, July 14. Jim’s will be laid to rest in the United Church Cemetery.
