Stevenson, Josephine (Joyce) 1926-2016
Joyce was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and grew up in Fox Valley and Simmie. Saskatchewan. She passed away in Ottawa, Ontario. She was the beloved wife of Matthew (2012) for over 65 years. Loving mother of Gregory (Faye) of Athabasca, Alberta and Darryl and Cheryl of Ottawa, ON. Proud grandmother of Kristin (Erin) of Edmonton, Gina (Andre) Lefebvre of Fort McMurray, Alta, and Eric of Athabasca, Alta. Dear sister of Victor (Anne) Petro of Dundas, ON, Gail (George) Wall of Regina, Sask., and sister-in-law of Velma (late James) of Saskatoon, Sask. Survived by brother-in-law Robert Gloslie of Lethbridge, Alta., and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Katherine and Andrew Petro, brothers James and Robert Petro, and nephew Barry Wall. Joyce was a teacher in a one room school house when she met her love, Matthew, at a country dance on a Saskatchewan night. Together they shared almost 66 years together, living in various regions of Canada and maintaining connections with friends met along the way. Joyce was a wonderful blend of prairie pragmatism, self reliance and compassion, with a kind word for everyone she met. She relished a good game of bridge and had an endless curiosity for current events and politics in particular. Although we are saddened by her death, the family is very grateful for all the years we shared and the love and support she gave to all of us. Private funeral arrangements are entrusted to Beechwood, Cemetery and Funeral Services. Flowers are gratefully declined.
