Ralph Garnet Stacey - 59 years, of Cambridge, Kings County, peacefully passed away Wednesday, August 10, 2016, surrounded by family as he looked out on to the lake at the family cottage in Digby County. Born on October 10, 1956 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Garnet was the beloved son of Ralph and the late Francis (Green) Stacey. Garnet met Andrea, his cherished friend for life, at university and married her 30 years ago. He described their beautiful and enduring friendship as ‘more than the word love can express’. They had three amazing children, Allex, Colin, and Eric who brought tremendous joy to their lives throughout the years. Together in their kindness, they also welcomed many other children into their home throughout the years, Jason, Rozalind, Chad, Stephanie, Jillian, Aryelle, and Mitch. Garnet dedicated his career to Community Justice. He served as a Cst. in the RCMP, worked in corrections at the Waterville Youth Centre, taught for the Nova Scotia Department of Justice, and had most recently joined the Ennis Security team. He will be remembered for always giving selflessly to others. Garnet instilled in his family the value of volunteering and giving back to the community. Proudly sharing his time and many skills, he worked with the Canadian Ski Patrol, Life Saving Society, Canadian Red Cross, and the St. John Ambulance. Never thinking of himself, he has touched many lives in his work, and saved a few as well. His courage was celebrated when he was recognized with the Canadian Ski Patrol National Bravery Award. Garnet’s dedication will be especially missed at Martock this upcoming ski season. Always an energetic athlete, when Garnet was not running, swimming, skiing, or riding his motorcycle, he could be found at the rugby field. A long-time member of the Valley Bulldogs Rugby Football Club, Garnet was affectionately known as the Silver Fox in the Maritime rugby community. Some of his happiest moments were sharing the field with family and friends – patching up players on the sidelines. Garnet will be forever loved by his family. The Stacey family: Ralph and Frieda, Cynthia, Dan, Allex, Quinn, Colin, Eric, Courtney, et al. The Burry family: Edith and Albert, Aaron, Ted, Stewart, Helena, Steven, Caroline, Scott, Trevor, Karen, Christopher, and Michael. Garnet wishes his family and friends to remember him as he was on the rugby field, at the ski hill, on his motorcycle or at the lake. Always thinking of others, Garnet has asked that donations in his memory be made to the Canadian Ski Patrol. Anyone wishing to be among family and friends was asked to drop-in Saturday August 13th between 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. at the family home.
