Margaret MacDonald

Date de naissance : 3 avril 1949

Date de décès : 15 août 2016

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Margie MacDonald on, August 15, 2016. Born April 3, 1949, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Ann (Roche) McCarthy of Sydney. She is survived by her husband, John Sully MacDonald Irish Vale; sons, Shaun (Janet) of Sydney, Steven (Meghan) Corpus Christi, Texas; Brother, Francis (Ann Marie) McCarthy, Sydney; Grandchildren, Catherine, Francis and another expected in October, as well as many Nieces and Nephews. She also leaves behind her precious and loving friend JoAnne Frost and fur babies Sabrina, Roxy, Molly, Boo, Coty and Barbie. She was predeceased by her brother, Charles McCarthy.
Margie worked at Koolex Kleaners in Sydney and Rita’s Tea Room in Big Pond where she was a Hostess and Manager. Upon retiring, she became an animal advocate and pursued her passion and love of animals. She volunteered at the Sydney SPCA where she had a great relationship with the staff, other volunteers and countless cats and dogs. It gave her great joy. One of her greatest achievements is being named and honored as ‘Maratimer of the Week’ by CTV Atlantic in October of 2014, for her volunteer work. Margie and her husband transported over 1000 animals to the mainland to be adopted into new homes and better lives. Another great achievement is that she was a founding member of ‘The Friends of Cape Breton Homeless Animals’ as well as served on the board of directors. She especially loved working with the wonderful friends she made there. Margie also spent some time volunteering with the Feral and Abandoned Cats Society. Margie fostered numerous animals and found great homes for them over the years. We would be remiss if we did not mention Bella, as one of her all time heart dogs. Bella was the beautiful full time resident dog at the SPCA that won so many hearts. When it was time for Bella to leave this world, Margie made sure that she was there to ease her passing. As Margie went through this life, her rewards were a multitude of really good friends. As per her wishes she has been cremated. Visitation will be at Chants Funeral Home in Sydney, Friday August 19th at 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. A celebration of her life will be held at Saint Mary’s Church in Big Pond on Saturday August 20th at 11 a.m. A reception will follow at the Big Pond Fire Hall thereafter. Family Flowers only. Donations to ‘The Friends of Cape Breton Homeless Animals’ can be made in her honor and would be greatly appreciated. Contact details, freindsofcbha@live.ca.
