Date de décès : 26 août 2016

Winnifred Florence Phillips nee Letson
September 10, 1921 - August 17, 2016
Winnie was born in Marcelin, Saskatchewan, and later moved to Prince Albert, where she attended school. This is also where she met Frank, who was in Saskatchewan with the Royal Air Force. Winnie and Frank were married in 1940, shortly before Frank returned to Europe to fight in World War II. Winnie continued to work in Prince Albert and, in 1941, Duncan was born. Winnie and Duncan moved to Newport, Monmouthshire, Wales, in 1945, to be with Frank where they had three more children - Kathleen, Margaret and June. They remained in Wales until December 1956, when they made the journey back to Canada, to live and work in Prince Albert. In 1963, the family moved to La Ronge to manage the Kitsaki Grocery store, after which they operated the Bowling Alley. When the Alley closed, Winnie started cooking in the kitchen in the Hospital until she retired at 65. One of Winnie’s greatest joys was to support local groups and events, whether it was working at bingos or cooking for bake sales. She was particularly active with the Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion, Royal Purple and the local Seniors group. Her volunteer efforts were recognized by local, provincial and federal governments, including her receiving the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal. Winnie was also Deputy Mayor of Air Ronge for several years. Winnie and Frank enjoyed travelling in their motor home to visit friends and relatives in the United States and Canada. As well, they returned to Britain to visit Frank's family and explored France and Switzerland. Until late in life, Winnie continued to travel and to enjoy making new friends in new places. Winnie loved cooking, knitting, sewing and making crafts, and she and her granddaughter Christine could always be found at the yearly craft fair in La Ronge. Bingo was a regular part of her life, and she was delighted to play scrabble at every chance she could. Winnie was predeceased by her parents, stepbrothers, stepsisters, husband Frank, son Duncan and dughter-in-law Lillian, her sister Eunice Moen and brother-in-law Pat Moen. Winnie is survived by her children, daughter Kathleen (Peter) Fair and Kathleen's children Elizabeth (Bradford) Williams, Victoria Harrison and grandchildren Emily and Jocelyn; daughter Margaret (Lavern) Kunz and Margaret's children Jennifer (Derek) Little, Christine (Carl) Diduck and great-grandchildren Nigel and Wyatt, June (Lee) Stevens and June's children Trevor Kunz, Kimberly Mack and great-grandchildren Brittany, Justin, Kayla, Jerry and Pay Pay. Duncan's children David (Pamela) Phillips, Sandra Phillips McRae (Derek Nansen), Laurie (Andrew) Arkinstall, Lesley (Karl) Moran and great-grandchildren Megan (Matt) Brownell, Andrew, Alexander, Jesse, Kaitlyn, Karlie, Ryan, Matthew, Patrick and Lily and one great-great-granddaughter Leah Brownell. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and a large group of friends who will miss her greatly. A celebration of Winnie's life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion in La Ronge on Wednesday, August 31, at 2 pm, luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the La Ronge hospital Long Term Care unit. Condolences may be offered at www.raschraderfuneralhome.com.
