The death occurred peacefully at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Charlottetown, P.E.I. on Sunday August 28th, 2016 of Jean (nee Pickering) Smith - Cole of Summerside, P.E.I. and formerly of Winsloe, aged 91 years. Jean was born in Sherbrooke, P.E.I.to her late parents George and Mildred (nee Phillips) Pickering. Beloved wife of the late Layton Smith and also her second husband, the late Oliver Cole. Loving mother of Gail Taylor, Brenda McIlwaine (Frank), Orien (Dorothy) Smith, Shirley (Jerome) Dowling, Glenn (Marie) Smith, Dennis (Laurie) Smith and Cathy (Blaine) Morrow all of Winsloe, step-mother to Eric Cole and Pam Perry all of Summerside. Also lovingly remembered by her 16 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. Survived by her sister-in-law Erna and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husbands, Jean was predeceased by her son Norman Smith, brothers and sisters Marjorie (Alfred) Colwill, Ruth (Nelson) Compton and Bill Pickering. Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home, 245 Pope Road, Summerside until Wednesday August 31st, then to the Summerside Presbyterian Church, for a funeral service at 11a.m. Interment to take place in Floral Hills Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Pleasant Valley. Memorial donation in Jean’s memory to the Summerside Presbyterian Church or the Prince County Hospital Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
