William 'Bill' Jefferson

It is with great sadness that we, the family announce the sudden passing of William “Bill” Jefferson on September 9, 2016. Bill was born in Sydney, on October 7, 1940, he was the son of the late Horace and Annie (Johnson) Jefferson. Bill worked for many years at CN and then VIA Rail as a ticket agent until his retirement. His greatest love was as an active member of Cape Breton Island Geocaching. He loved the time he spent with its members and also his partner Mary, finding his next cache and is fondly known as “The First To Find” King. Bill was a devoted partner to Mary, loving father and grandfather. He touched the hearts and souls of everyone he met and he will be sadly missed by all. Bill is survived by his beloved partner, Mary (Pynn) Kelly; son, William “Bill”, Ontario, son, Paul, Halifax; daughter, Coleen Cipak (Eric), Marion Bridge; his precious grandchildren, Ashley (Anthony), Stephen (Alicia), Jorden (Candace) and James, his one great granddaughter, Bailey. He is also survived by his sister, Sharon, Ontario; brother, Ed (Sandra), New Brunswick; as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Nancy in 2009 and sister, Peggy Buchanan. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 14, 2016 from 1-2 p.m. with a service to follow at 2 p.m. with Rev. Sheldon Chant at the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home Chapel, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney.
We the family would like to thank the Neurosurgery Department at the Halifax Infirmary and also the wonderful and caring staff of the ICU department 5.2 Halifax Infirmary.
