Alexander Gordon MacEachern (77) passed away peacefully on September 14, 2016 at Victoria County Memorial Hospital. Born in Meat Cove, December 3, 1938, the son of the late Augustine and Margaret (MacKinnon) MacEachern. Dad was a kind, proud and generous man, a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to all. He enjoyed playing cards and operating his amateur radio (VEINA). He was an avid boxing fan and enjoyed training young boxers.
Alex worked at Cape Breton Highlands National Park before moving to Baddeck where he worked and became well known as the "Baddeck Jailer".
He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley of 55 years; his daughters, Jackie, Middle River and Cindy (Gordie), Baddeck and sons, Bruce (Joanne) and Paul also of Baddeck. Sisters, Ruth Brock, London, Ontario, Christene Lewis, Sydney, and Pauline Chubbs, Dingwall and 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandsons. He was predeceased by sisters, Kaye Dunphy, and Jessie Fitgerald; brothers, Archie, Russell, Douglas, Stephen, Michael and Dukie.
Cremation has taken place and funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Saturday, September 17th, at St. Joseph Church, Dingwall, visitation prior to mass at 10 a.m. Burial to follow in the church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CNIB, NS Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice. A special thank you to the Baddeck Home Support staff and the Victoria County Memorial Hospital Staff.
