Marie Kathleen (nee Boyd) Hendricken

The death occurred at the Kings County Hospital on Friday, October 14, surrounded by her loving family, of Marie Kathleen Hendricken (nee Boyd) of Pisquid , aged 81. Life long partner and beloved wife of JP Hendricken, mother of Danny, Darlene (Harold Curran), Cathy (Marvin Cameron), Ike, Kim (David MacSwain) and Clair (Lisa Jennings). Loving mother-in-law of Sue Fraser and Anne Marie Hendricken; grandmother of Corey, Annie, Emily, Patrick, Kathleen, Margie, Johnny, Meredith, Kyle, Shaundell, Alex, Sean, Trent, Sam, and Cyd ; great grandmother of Duncan, Dane, Kieran, Alyse, Cameron and Maya. Also survived by sisters, Martha MacDonald, Chris MacGillivary (Forbie), Lucille Dunn (Walter), and Rita Fougere (Russel); brothers, Alex Boyd (Tina) and John Boyd (Cordis); sisters and brothers-in-law, Kay Boyd, Lornie Hendricken, Bernice Kelly, Elaine Wood, Diane MacKay (Don), Colleen Rogerson (Howard), Leo Hendricken (Helen), Claire Hendricken, Velma Hendricken, Diane Hendricken, Marjorie Hendricken and Doris Hendricken as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, Daniel and Margaret Boyd; sisters, Tada O’Neill (Jim),Marguerite Boyd (Myles); by brothers, Joe Boyd (Helen), Buddy Boyd (Terri), Jerome Boyd and Blaise Boyd (Jean); by sisters and brothers-in-law, Irwin Hendricken, Frankie Hendricken, Howard Kelly, Phelan Hendricken, Deannie MacDonald, and Roy Wood. Marie was a long time proud member of the National Farmers Union, Farmers Helping Farmers, and Cooper institute representing farm women locally, nationally, and internationally. She was an avid traveller and was a strong supporter for those whose voice needed airing. Her travels took her to Africa, Germany, Holland, and Scotland and no matter where she went, she connected with the local people and did what she could to educate others about the wisdom of the cultures she witnessed. Above all, Marie was a kind and loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and wife, who never asked for anything but always gave selflessly of herself to others. Resting at St. Cuthbert’s Roman Catholic Church, St. Teresa, for visitation on Monday, October 17, 2016 from 2 – 4 and 6 – 9 p.m., and on Tuesday from 12:30 – 2 p.m. Funeral mass to be held at St. Andrew’s Roman Catholic Church, Mt. Stewart on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at 3 p.m. Interment in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Marie’s memory to Kings County Hospice.
