David Lovett Carter

David Lovett Carter

Date de décès : 19 novembre 2016

David Lovett Carter, beloved husband of Kathleen McLean, passed away November 19, 2016 at Victoria General Hospital after a long battle against cancer, which he fought with both humour and optimism. Born in 1955 in Arichat, N.S., he was the son of the late Ida May (Burke) and Daniel Edgar Carter. Living in both Dartmouth and French Cove, Dave enjoyed many high-energy pursuits such as camping, hiking, canoeing, kayaking, and social dancing, was active in a variety of volunteer associations, and made friends everywhere he went. He never sat still, but was always working on a project, helping around the neighbourhood, or enjoying dog sports with Karma, his Spanish Water Dog. Dave particularly enjoyed working on his house and property in Cape Breton and took many beautiful photos of French Cove and the wildlife in the yard. Dave never met anyone he didn't like. He enjoyed his years at Canada Post because it let him work off energy and meet more people. Despite being on a busy city mail route, he knew his customers personally and helped them out whenever he could. He was proud to work for the United Way Action for Neighbourhood Change, engaging people to take on community projects. In addition, Dave obtained his ECE credentials and the children at Kathy's daycare would greet him enthusiastically whenever he arrived. He was especially proud of his work with the Nova Scotia Trans-Canada Trail and International Trails Day, which is celebrated annually around the world. In addition to his soulmate Kathy, Dave is survived by sister, Ella (Ross Baillie); children, Sandra May (Ian Cornelissen), Patricia Endres (Thomas), Daniel, Jaime Goddard (Dave Booth), Michael Goddard and Alex Goddard; grandchildren, Allison, Anouk, Abigal, William; nieces, Katelynn and Tracey, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Cremation has taken place and there is no visitation at the request of the family. A memorial service will take place in Cape Breton at a later date. Dave requested that donations in his memory be made to the Sunshine Room at the Victoria General Hospital, where cancer patients and their families find a cheerful respite from their daily battles. He especially loved the free haircuts! Special thanks to all the staff on 5A Centennial Building, and palliative care nurse Monica who made Dave comfortable during his last months.
