FITZGERALD, Marion Theresa – 85, The Meadows Home for Special Care, Yarmouth, formerly of Arcadia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 19, 2016 in The Meadows. Born March 15, 1931 in Yarmouth, she was a daughter of the late Remi and Frances (Deveau) Doucette. Aside from being a homemaker, Marion worked at Rodd Grand Hotel in Yarmouth for 20 years, having also worked at the Community Theatre for 10 years, as well as at St. Ambrose Rectory and at Cosmos Imperial Mills. Marion was very devoted and faithful to her church, having been a choir member and Eucharistic minister at the former Notre Dame Church. She was also a member of the Cursillo movement and she was passionate about animals. She is survived by her husband, James A. Fitzgerald with whom she would have celebrated 63 years of marriage on Wednesday (Nov. 23). She is also survived by a daughter, Sharon (Jimmy) Doucette, Arcadia; a brother, Ray (Shea) Doucette, Toronto and a sister, Dorothy Melvin, Kitchener, ON. Although Marion didn’t have any grandchildren, her little furry friend, Mandi filled-in that place. Aside from her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, Gordon, Mel and Donald Doucette, as well as by sisters, Margaret Hubbard and Cecilia Landry. Visitation took place from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Tuesday with prayers at 8:00 at H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth. The funeral mass was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 23 at Saint Ambrose Co-Cathedral, Yarmouth, Father Henry Smolenaars officiated. Interment took place in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Yarmouth. Donations in memory of Marion may be made to the Yarmouth SPCA, the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia or to a charity of choice.
