Joyce Katherine Lyon - age 93, of Kentville, passed away peacefully in Shannex - Orchard Court, Kentville on Thursday, November 24, 2016. She was born in Kentville, the daughter of the late Harry and Annie (Fielding) Williams. She was married to Harold, the love of her life, who passed away in October, 1995. Harold was from England and had been stationed at Greenwood with the RAF. They met at a social event and were married in 1943. Joyce travelled to England by ship during the war years to be close to Harold. She was in England for two and a half years. In 1947 they returned to Nova Scotia. She loved to knit and over the years made numerous sweaters, socks and mittens for her grandchildren. She was a terrific cook and her desserts were fantastic. She was well known for having a sweet tooth. She was a member of the United Church of St. Paul and St. Stephen, Kentville. She will be sadly missed by her sons, David (Joanne), Kentville; Gary (Ann), Bathurst; grandchildren, Kelly (Cory) Chapman, Angus; Brad (Rhonda Taylor) Lyon, Sackville; Sheri (Collin) Mecke, Sudbury; Amy (Jason) Zweig, Toronto; and three great grandchildren, Morgan, Kayla, Aaron and one on the way. She was predeceased by her brother, Starr Williams and his wife Marjorie. Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation by request. The funeral service, followed by a reception, will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 29, 2016 in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville, Reverend Ivan Norton officiating. Burial will take place in the Elm Grove Cemetery, Steam Mill. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the charity of choice. The family would like to thank all the staff of Shannex - Orchard Court and especially those who showed so much care and compassion in her last few days.
