Bruce Kelsey Highsaw passed away on November 24, 2016 at the age of 82 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Gravelbourg. Bruce, son of William and Rose Highsaw, was born on Sept. 7, 1934, on the home quarter section, south of Mankota, Saskatchewan. He went to school at Wideview, Alloa and Return. Bruce married Lorraine (Silbernagel) of Mankota on Oct. 1, 1956. They lived on the family ranch running Hereford cattle and raising quarter horses. During Bruce’s life, he took on many roles over the years, working Seismic at Sylvan Lake in the early 70’s, drove school bus, STC bus, corral cleaning business, tended bar at the Paris Hotel of Mankota and worked at the Vet Clinic with Doc Sherven and later with Allan Raymond. Bruce and Lorraine decided to retire and move to town in 1999. Bruce would always have time to help out friends and neighbors. He was a member of the Mankota Stockman’s Weigh Co. and rode at the Mankota Community Pasture. He also cut grass around town and the cemetery. Bruce loved to be around people. Bruce loved rodeo and travelled to watch Brian ride bulls. He was part of the Mankota Roping Club where he won a calf roping buckle. He also enjoyed team roping and later on became the flagger. Bruce loved to fish, play cards, brain teasers, collecting coins, leather working, woodworking, eating sweets, watching Hockey Night in Canada and the News. He even learned to love the technology of the cell phone and Facebook. Bruce loved music and dancing. He loved to wear jewelry, especially Black Hills Gold. Most of all, Bruce loved kids...especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved to TEASE all of them and everyone he met. Bruce was predeceased by his parents William and Rose, daughter Ella Joorisity, son-in-law Jim McCrea, siblings Marie (Jack) Knippelberg, Eva (Henry) Kohl, Shirley (Eddie) Shultz, in-laws Gabriel and Veronica Silbernagel, sisters-in-law Heather Silbernagel and Sandy Silbernagel, and brother-in-law Dale Loverin. Bruce is survived by his wife of 60 years, Lorraine, children: Lionel (Patti), (Wade), Shelly (Randy), Kelsey, Wendy (Earl), Sherry (Paul), Brian (Debbie), Laurie (Darcy) and Treena (Danny); grandchildren: Robyn, Harlan, Elton (Kelsey), Melissa (Gary), Kristin (Chris), Justin, Derrick, Laynn, Logan, Chance (Jenn), Cheryl (Jaden), Brandon (Brandy), Patrick, Dessa (Jordan), Terance (Alisha), Tara (Grant), Kash, Shaylee (Delwyn), Taylor (Logan), Braylen, Aspen and Kohan; great-grandchildren: Dawson, Levi, Gemma, Asher, Ella, Parker, Grady, Jaxon, Nash, and numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral Service was held Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at 1:30 pm at the Mankota Agricultural Hall, officiated by Rick Hawreschuk. Tribute was given by Laurie Silbernagel. Urn Bearer was son, Lionel. Interment followed at Mankota Cemetery. Donations in Memory of Bruce may be made to the Mankota & District Health Auxiliary for the Prairie View Health Centre.
