We regret to announce the passing of Peter Vincent MacIntyre, December 15, 2016 at Celtic Court Nursing Home, Sydney, Cape Breton.
Born on French Road, Cape Breton, in 1934, he was the son of the late Joe Hugh MacIntyre and Margaret C. MacKinnon. He was a construction worker by trade and self-employed in construction and lumbering. Peter, a gifted Scottish piper, won many awards and trophies in piping competitions. He belonged to many pipe bands, including the Sydney Academy Pipe Band, Niagara Falls Canada Legion Pipe Band, Toronto Irish Wyld Times, Cape Breton Highlanders and the MacDougall Girls Pipe Band, with whom he toured throughout the Eastern United States and various venues in Canada. Peter generously played at numerous weddings, funerals and other occasions. In addition to giving private torturing sessions to many, and was a piping instructor at the Gaelic College in St. Anne’s for many years. Peter had a great love for piping and the Scottish culture and promoted and encouraged their continuation at every opportunity. Peter was ‘The last of the French Road Macintyre Pipers’ of whom there were many. Peter is survived by his daughters, Heather Ann and Carrie; son, Frances, also granddaughter, Jessica. Loving companion, Kay Gouthro and her family, especially Cordella and Blanche (Paul). Peter is also survived by sisters, Evelyn (Hugh) MacPherson, Josephine; brothers, Michael (Belinda) and Joe (Theresa); daughter-in-law, Alice (Johnston) and her children; sisters-in-law, Hazel, Mary and Lorraine, also many nieces, nephews, and good friend, Courtney MacPherson. Besides his parents, Peter was predeceased by his wife, Annie Mae and son, Peter Joseph (P.J.); sisters, Ida, Rita, Mary (Lawrence) Day, Kay (Charlie) Novak; brothers, Donald A. ‘Danny’ (Hazel), Angus ‘Gussie’ (Lorraine), Duncan P. ‘Paddy’ (Mary), also John and Duncan in infancy. Many thanks to the staff Celtic Court Nursing Home, also the staff of SW Chant & Son Funeral Home, for their assistance, care and compassion. Cremation has taken place. Visitation for Peter will be held on Tuesday December 20, 2016 from 12-3 p.m. in the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, with funeral service to follow at 3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Fr. Paul MacGillvray officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in St. Margaret of Scotland Cemetery, Grand Mira South. Donations in peters memory can be made to St. Margaret of Scotland Cemetery Fund, Grand Mira South.
