RONALD "SCOTTIE" MAIN

Date de naissance : 6 juin 1933

Lieu de décès : NORTH SYDNEY, Nouvelle Ecosse
Date de décès : 10 janvier 2017

Ronald (Scottie) Main, age 83 of Boularderie, passed away on January 10, 2017, peacefully, at the North Side General Hospital in North Sydney N.S. Born in Nairn, Scotland, on June 6, 1933, he was a son of the late James and Elizabeth (Fraser) Main. Ronald (Scottie) was a very strong man, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who lived a very colourful and active life. Scottie grew up in Scotland in the coastal town of Nairn where he met and eventually married Mary (Morrison) Main, and had two children Ronnie and Isla. He immigrated with his family to Canada in 1962, taking up residence in the Ottawa Valley where he was employed as a carpenter who deployed to Ellesmere Island in the Canadian Arctic. This is where he developed a love for his lifelong hobby for brewing his special elixir. Scottie then moved to Toronto and settled down in a small home in the east end area near the Beaches where he worked for many years as a carpenter for Eaton's and Ontario Hydro and further enhanced his elixir brewing skills. After Ronald and Mary's marriage ended, he tragically lost his daughter Isla to an accident in 1978 and he never truly got over that loss, he always kept Isla's memory alive in his heart. In late 1978 Scottie made the move to Cape Breton to work as crew on the Pilot Boat in North Sydney and then went on to work as a carpenter for many years. He first settled in Big Bras d’Or and then in Boularderie East where he moved in with his long time and loving companion Theresa Romeo. Over the years he became an integral part of the community and was known by many people, wherever you went somebody knew Scottie. His singing voice, his spoon and "accordion" playing, his sense of humour and ability to tell a good story and his famous elixir were well known and enjoyed by all who knew him. Fair Thee Well Dad (Scottie), I love you.
Scottie is survived by his sister, Violet Adam (Main); son, Ronnie Main; daughter- in-law, Carole Main (Arseneau); two grandchildren, Melissa Flynn (Main) and spouse and Tara Gray (Main) and spouse; and one great-grandchild, Cadence Gray. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Isla Main; sister, Betty Riopelle (Main) and brother Jimmy Main. The family will receive visitors on Monday, January 16, 2017, at 10 a.m. in J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines. A celebration of Scottie’s life will take place at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. A reception will be held in Holy Family Parish Hall, following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of NS. Words of comfort may be forwarded to the family at www.jmjobesfuneralhome.com.
