Harold Joseph (Bud) Williams

Harold Joseph (Bud) Williams

Date de décès : 17 janvier 2017

Harold Joseph (Bud) Williams, 80, of Cheticamp, N.S., passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 in Sacred Heart Community Health Centre after a long, courageous battle with esophageal cancer. Born in St. John’s, Newfoundland, he was a son of the late Harold Baxter (Shorty) and Madeline (Stanford) Williams. Bud started his young career by enlisting in the Canadian Army where he served a posting in Germany. After leaving the army he went to work with National Sea Products, fishing out of Halifax, St. John’s and other ports for numerous years. While in Port in Halifax on one particular trip he met a young lady, Pauline Poirier. Smitten, Pauline dragged him to Cheticamp to show off her new found treasure to her mom and dad, as well as her sisters, brothers, cousins, nephews, nieces, friends and behold, as the story goes, a few strangers and a few tourists to firm up her holding! Bud immediately fell in love with Cheticamp where they moved and spent the rest of his life. Bud loved commercial fishing and spent his career fishing lobster, crab, et al, out of Cheticamp. Bud also greatly enjoyed trout fishing with his good friends, Charlie Poirier and Eddy Joe Camus. It was in Cheticamp that Bud and Pauline were blessed with a beautiful daughter, Michelle and a beautiful step-daughter, Evelyn Doyle who were both the ‘apple of his eye’. Over our numerous phone conversations over the years Bud would elevate these three ladies to Queens, Princesses, or just plain Royalty!
Surviving are his wife, Pauline (Poirier) Williams; his daughter, Michelle (Robert) Poirier; step-daughter, Evelyn (Stephen) Doyle, both of Cheticamp; brothers, James, known as Jim, (Mary) Williams; Charles (Pearl) Williams; sisters, Florence Little, Madonna Williams (Hugh Joseph), Norma Murphy and Dorothy Michaels. Other relatives too numerous to mention but Bud would want us to mention his favorite aunt, Aunt Elsie in Mount Pearl, Newfoundland. Predeceased by brothers, Cyril, youngest brother John; brothers-in-law, Ross Little, Patty Murphy and sister-in-law, Blanche Williams. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until time of funeral mass at 10:30 a.m. in St. Peter’s Church, Cheticamp. Burial will be at a later date in St. John’s, Newfoundland. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Cheticamp Funeral Services Ltd. Condolences may be sent to, cheticampfuneral@ns.aliantzinc.ca
