On December 17th, 2016, Dr. Edward Joseph Godsell passed away peacefully at the Victoria General Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Edward was born in Spaniard’s Bay, Newfoundland on June 4, 1949. He was the only son of John and Cecilia Godsell. Left to mourn are Maryette Godsell and their children Ted (Pauline), Greg, Sharon, Michael (Jenni) and David (Christie) as well as three grandchildren Katelyn, Benjamin and Alexander. He also leaves to mourn many other relatives, friends and former colleagues.
Edward grew up on William Street in downtown St. John's and attended high school at Brother Rice. After high school he worked as assistant manager at Memorial Stadium before completing graduate studies at Memorial University. After earning a Masters Degree he worked as a psychology instructor at Memorial University for a couple years and then moved to Gambo, NL in 1976 to teach at Smallwood Academy. While there he was elected to the town council and also became a charter member of the Gambo Knights of Columbus.
In 1983, he moved to Marystown, NL to work as the Special Services Co-ordinator for the Burin Peninsula School Board and would later became their first Information Technology Co-ordinator. During this time he earned a Doctorate in Educational Law from the University of Toronto. Later in his career, Edward taught graduate courses at Memorial University and worked as a co-ordinator for school boards in Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Throughout his life Edward had a passion for business and technology. He enjoyed stock market investing and was usually fluent in the latest computer technology.
Edward's cremation was held at the Bardall Funeral Home in Winnipeg on December 20th. A quiet celebration of life was held at the Stadacona Faith Centre in Halifax on December 30th. Interment will take place in Spaniard's Bay during the summer.
The family would like to sincerely thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Poseidon Care Facility and the Victoria Hospital and all those who have sent their thoughts and prayers over the past few weeks."
