M. Joan Hunter Duvar Campbell

M. Joan Hunter Duvar Campbell

October 19, 1922 – January 31, 2017
At her home in Cornwall, with her usual dignity and grace. Joan was the proud daughter of Lt. Col. Robert “Jock” and Peggy (nee Rigg) Hunter Duvar, the devoted wife of the late Bert G. Campbell Q.C. (1992), the truly loving and beloved mother of Dr. Robert “Rocky” Campbell (Sharlene), Nora Campbell and Janet “Agi” Campbell-Duperron RN (Don), the cherished Grandmother of Campbell and Cory Metro (Kaysha), adored Great-Grandmother of Raegan, Casha, Steven, Asher and Katalyn. Predeceased by grandchildren Hunter Robert Campbell Blackmore and Joanna Sam Campbell Blackmore. Joan joined the Canadian Women’s Army Corp. (C.W.A.C.s) and saw active service as a staff sergeant in England during World War II. In her capacity as a C.W.A.C. she was chosen as one of the first four women to stand ceremonial Honour Guard at the National War Memorial in Ottawa. During her service, Joan was highly commended for having “poise beyond her years”. As Joan grew into those years, that poise and graciousness remained a foundation of her character. Joan always attributed her strength of character to her loving parents and her delightful memories of her childhood. She, in turn, shared that truly unconditional love with her children and family. Joan’s charities of choice were the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Charlottetown Food Bank and PEI Humane Society. Resting at MacLean Funeral Home Swan Chapel. No visitation by personal request. Interment in St. John’s Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Belfast. A private celebration of Joan’s life will be held at The Ponds this summer. Online condolences may be made at www.macleanfh.com She was, and will continue to be, the wind beneath our wings.
