It is with great sadness that the family of Hubert Bernard Vaughan of St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, announces his peaceful passing on February 13, 2017 at the Health Sciences Centre. Predeceased by his wife Joan (Browne) and parents Mary Kearney and George Vaughan, as well as siblings Leo, Augustus, George, Joseph, Francis, and Albert. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are his children Ken (Brenda), Robert (Jeanette), Stephen (Andrea) and Susan; grandchildren Cynthia, Michael, Raymond, Laura and Stephen; great-grandchildren Carter and Owen; brother-in-law Des Browne (Belle) and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. At the age of 19, Hubert enlisted and served in Korea from 1950-1952. A proud member of the Royal Canadian Legion, he was awarded the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002. Special thanks to caregiver Joanne St. Croix and the staff of 4 South A for their tender care and kindness, as well as Veterans Affairs Canada for their invaluable advice and support during the past year. The family also extends a very special thank you to the staff at Sobeys, Howley Estates, for keeping Hubert on his toes and filled with coffee, cake and stories. Relatives and friends are invited to call at Caul's Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road, Monday, February 20, 2017 from 12-1:45 p.m. immediately followed by a memorial service from Caul's Chapel at 2 p.m. Inurnment to follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery. Donations may be made in Hubert's memory to the Royal Canadian Legion.
