Harold Kensil Nelson

Harold Kensil Nelson, 86, of Amherst and Halifax, known by many as Ken, passed away February 11, 2017 after a brief illness. Ken is predeceased by his parents Violet (Smith) and Aubrey Nelson of Fenwick, NS; wife and best friend Marjorie (Patterson); brothers Hilton (Moira), Laurie, Alden, Leonard and Douglas (Shirley); sister Audrey (Ernie) Coates; sister-in-law Bessie; brothers-in-law Vic and Doug; and beloved grandsons Alexandre and Eric.
He is survived by his siblings Bert, Owen (Shirley), Stanley (Carol), Shirley and Dorcas; sisters-in-law Elizabeth, Sheila and Joanne; daughter Donna (David); son Jeffrey (Suzanne); his adored grandchildren Claire (Nathan), Benjamin (Li) and Laura; and many nieces and nephews.
Ken worked at the Sifto Salt Plant in Nappan, NS from the tender age of 13 until his retirement in 1988. Then he and Marge travelled to Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, Scotland and Nashville. Marge and Ken were avid square and round dancers with the Tantramar Twirlers and the Cumberland Twirlers. They ran Nelson & Nelson Maple Products together with his brother Hilton. Ken loved his time at the Parrsboro Golf Club, woodworking, doing puzzles, playing dominos, attending Nelson reunions and hanging with his grandchildren. Like all of us, he loved Five Islands.
We will miss Ken’s great sense of humour, and the kindness in his heart and soul. Ken is loved by all he left behind, and everyone will remember and cherish the time they spent with him.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life and will be held in the spring with interment in Fenwick Cemetery.
Special thanks to the staff of Northwood Manor for their dedication and compassion throughout his stay.
