Aquinas Ryan

Aquinas Ryan

Aquinas Ryan, formerly of Avondale and a long time resident of St. Peter’s Bay died suddenly on March 03, 2017, aged 84 years. The last of ten children, born to Joseph and Angelina, he was predeceased by: Johnny, Maragrat, George, Peter, Emmet, Wilfred, Louis, Russel and Mary. He is survived by his wife Toddy (Rossiter) and his children: Stephen (Verna), Andy, Maura (Craig Pardy) and Maribeth (John Walsh), and eight grandchildren; Milo, Marshall, Sawyer and Kathleen Ryan; Mackenzie and Callum Pardy; and Owen and Maura Walsh. A “farm boy at heart” Aquinas can be remembered for his many roles; Teacher, Coach, Mentor, Volunteer and Community Leader. Some of these were established at St. Dunstan's, where he competed as a varsity athlete, led student government and formed life long friendships. Known by many for his political life, he also spent many years volunteering on various community associations, whether it was the PEI Federation of Municipalities, the Kings County Baseball Leaque or the St. Peter’s Blueberry Festival-to name a few. For most of his life, Aquinas was surrounded by young people – coaching, listening, advising – and perhaps his commitment to youth will be his lasting impression. The role of “Poppy” was one he was most fond of and the time with his grandchildren at the family cottage, listening to Irish music and waiting for the sun to set were his most cherished moments. Resting at the former St. Peter’s Consolidated School, St. Peter’s Bay, for visitation on Wednesday, March 8, 2017, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass to be held at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, St. Peter’s Bay, on Thursday, March 09, 2017, at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Aquinas’ memory to the PEI Right to Life Association, or toward a bursary in his name which will be awarded to an engaged graduate of Morell Regional High School, or to a charity of your choice. Interment will follow in parish cemetery. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to North Shore Funeral Home, Morell. On line condolences may be made to northshore@peifuneralcoops.com
