Alma Margaret Swenson
It is with great sadness that the family of Alma Swenson announces her passing on March 5, 2017, at the Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert, SK, at the age of 94 years. Alma was predeceased by: her loving husband: Leslie, in 1989; and is survived by: her 6 children and their families. Her son: Wayne (Ruth), Ronda (Corey O’Dell), Brett, Curtis and Shawna (Curt Kowalchuk); her son: Ron (Christie), Jill and Kelly (Landon Switzer); her daughter: Judy (Alan Reynolds) and Lon Brewster (Jodi); her daughter: Peggy (Danny Watt), Jody (Warren Koch), David (Mandy) and Jason; her son: Randy (Lori), Brennan and Rhys; her son: Allen (Julie), Greg (Cassie), Tom (Kristen), Alex; and her great-grandchildren: Kirsten, Baylee, Brady, Maya, Logan, Chloe, Lucas and Leah; her brother: Einar (Sonja) Rinholm; her brother-in-law: Clifford (Myrtle) Swenson; her sisters-in-law: Delores Brettle, Stella Rinholm, Inez Nelson and Donna Swenson; and brothers-in-law: Cory Meeds, Victor Bjork, Leslie Cameron, Harvey Swenson, Stan Swenson, Vern Swenson and Con Nelson. Alma had a long and fulfilling life but the greatest wealth she accumulated was her family. She and Dad spend many hours following all of the children through their various activities whether it was at the skating or curling rinks, on the ski slopes, the ball diamond, track and field or Demolay and Job’s Daughters meetings. Alma’s life on the farm was a great joy for her and she remembers it fondly. She often spoke of the fun they had riding to ball games in the back of the truck and to school in her father’s mail delivery sled. After graduating from high school and finding she was too young to go to Nursing School, she went into the College of Education and taught at Golden Rod and Bastness schools before they moved to P.A. After her children were all in school, Alma worked at various jobs and eventually with the Government at the Unemployment Insurance Commission where she stayed for several years before retiring in 1987. After retirement, Alma was again able to spend time with her children and now attending the activities of her grandchildren whom she deeply loved. Later as her health began to fail she was fortunate to spend time at the Kopera Care Home in P.A., and later in Birchview Nursing Home in Birch Hills, SK. She loved both facilities and received the BEST of care during her stays at both. The family wish to thank all of the care aides and staff at both facilities as well as Dr. DeBeer and Dori and her staff of the 5th floor at the Victoria Hospital for the excellent care provided to her. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, March 9, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Messiah Lutheran Church, 1796 15th Avenue E, Prince Albert, SK with Pastor Iris Krisjansdottir as Officiant. Interment will follow at Saron Lutheran Cemetery.
