BURKE, Daniel Henry - age 83, Belleville, Yarmouth Co., passed away peacefully with his daughter and granddaughter at his side and in the arms of his loving wife on Monday, March 20, 2017 at home. Born May 14, 1933 in Halifax, he was a son of the late Paul and Cécile (Bourque) Bourque. Daniel was a retired firefighter for the City of Toronto, where he also operated a television antenna installation business. Following his retirement, he and his wife moved back to Belleville where, as active square and round dancers, they became involved in the Nova Scotia Square Dance Association and the National Square Dance Campers Association. Daniel was a devoted member of St. Anne’s Parish and was also an active member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a Past Grand Knight with Bishop Albert Leménager Council No. 8988, Tusket, was a Past Faithful Navigator with the Msgr. W.E. Young Fourth Degree Assembly No. 1428, Yarmouth and was also a dedicated member of the Yarmouth County Trail Development Association. In his spare time, Daniel enjoyed doing carpentry and mechanics, but what he enjoyed most was playing guitar and harmonica, both of which he learned on his own. He will undoubtedly be remembered as a kind, generous and selfless man who was always ready to help others. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty years, Jeanette (Vondette) Burke, as well as by their children, Wayne (Donna), Ajax, ON and Lynn (Chris), Yarmouth, along with grandchildren, Jennifer (Matt), Yellowknife; Krystin (Mario), Meteghan Station; Michael (Caitlyn), Yellowknife; Shayne, Keswick, ON and three great grandchildren, Gracie, Hudson and Bennett, all of Yellowknife. Also surviving are sisters, Doris MacSween, Fredericton, NB and Anne Amirault (Paul), Yarmouth. Aside from his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Joan Campbell and a brother, Roy Burke. Visitation took place from 7-9 Sunday evening, with prayers at 8 p.m., at H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert St., Yarmouth. A funeral mass will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 28 from Saint Anne’s Church in Ste. Anne-du-Ruisseau, Father Albeni d’Entremont officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. It has been requested that there be family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to Saint Anne’s Church or to the Knights of Columbus Charitable Foundation. The family wishes to offer heartfelt thanks to the staff at Yarmouth Regional Hospital Patient Navigation and Palliative Care departments, as well as to the VON, Yarmouth-Argyle Home Support Services and the Red Cross for the care and compassion they showed Daniel and his family throughout his illness – your kindness will never be forgotten.
