BROADHEAD, John William – 76, Truro, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Friday evening, March 31, 2017, at Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Toronto, Ontario, he was a son of the late John and Thesta (Scott) Broadhead. John worked as a project estimator at Home Hardware Building Centre in Barrhead, Alberta, until his retirement in 1990, and then moved to Truro. He was a Political Science Major from York University, Ontario, and always loved discussing and following politics and he also enjoyed music, reading and woodworking. John is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 38 years, Katherine Elizabeth (Taylor); first wife and mother of his children, Carole June (Stirke) Broadhead, Edmonton, Alberta; children, Barbara Anne Young (Jim Wong), John William “JR” Broadhead, Edmonton, Alberta; grandson, Joshua (Rebecca) Zezula, Rocky Mountain House, Alberta; five great grandchildren; siblings, Brian (Barb) Broadhead, Midland, Ontario; Nancy (Gordon) Elliott, Proton Station, Ontario; Buster (Suzanne) Broadhead, Concord, Ontario; Robert (Darlene) Broadhead, Toronto, Ontario; Susan (Fred) Dalley, Barrie, Ontario; sister-in-law, Penny (Jason) MacCormick, Valley, Colchester County; brother-in-law, Johnny Taylor, East Mountain; several nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Richard in infancy. Special thanks are extended to Dr. Trevor Locke and all the staff at Colchester East Hants Health Centre and to VON who have been an absolute blessing to us and allowed John to remain at home for as long as he did. Honouring John’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. If so desired, donations in John’s memory to VON are welcomed.
