On April 30, 2017 surrounded by his loving family Joseph Adrian ‘Scrappy’ McKinnon completed this leg of his journey to begin a new season free of pains and cares in the arms of his loving father.
In his time here Adrian touched so many lives with his laughing eyes, deep dimples, heartfelt laugh, and contagious smile through his 30 years as a miner and his passion for bowling, dropping anything and everything at a moment’s notice to help everyone he felt in need.
His heart was so big it’s surprising Glace Bay was big enough to contain it, although his love was so expansive it was felt across the miles to the Pacific and beyond.
He was the son of the late Moses Coady and Helen Jane McKinnon. Adrian was survived by his wife, Mabel Elizabeth (Russell) McKinnon; his daughters, Sharon Rose Acker and Cheryl Lynn McKinnon; granddaughters, Alexondria Krystina Acker and Keileigh Elizabeth Acker; brothers, Frankie, Jerry, Arnold, Bernie (pre-deceased, Coady, Ronnie) Marie, Carme, Anna, Joyce, Cathy, Helen (predeceased, Claire).
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 8 at 6 to 9 p.m. at Patten's Funeral Home with funeral services to be held at St. Joseph's in Reserve Mines on Tuesday, May 9 at 11 a.m. with a reception to follow at the Salvation Army at 12:30 p.m.
Donations can be made to the heart and Stroke Foundation, Diabetes Association, and the Kidney Foundation.
