Mary Thorne (Vickers)

Date de naissance : 19 décembre 1938

Date de décès : 6 mai 2017

With deep sadness and broken hearts we regret to announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Mary Thorne on Saturday, May 6, 2017. Mom passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Sydney Mines on December 19, 1938 she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Katie Vickers.
Mom was the strongest, bravest woman we know. Mom never complained regardless of how she was feeling. She always had a positive attitude and kept a smile on. Mom’s truest passion was her children whom she adored.
Mom shared many memories of times spent at Aunt Lucy’s in Newfoundland and enjoyed the company of her closest friends Joan Hillier and Ann Steele. Mom loved the simple things in life including jigsaw puzzles, crosswords, darts and a good game of Rummoli on Sunday night with friends. She loved her lemon squares and look forward to playing Go Fish with her great grandsons Wyatt and Chayce, along with her daily comedy routine from her son Billy Joe and warm calls from her grandchildren out West.
Mom will be forever missed by her daughters, Linda (Bill) Ivey, Lucy (Rob) Robinson and Shirley (Steve) Thorne; her loving sons, Billy Joe (Patsy), Benjie (Denise), John (Kathy), Peter, Paul, Benny (Belinda), George (Barb), Gordie (Belinda), Dave (Iris), Clayton and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Patsy, Christine, Kay and Eileen, and nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Ben; beloved, son Bobby; daughter-in-law, Joye; granddaughter, Michelle; sisters, Lil, Eileen, Judy, Maureen, Anne and June, and brothers, Jack and Joe.
We were blessed to keep mom at home with the wonderful care provided by her daughter, Lucy, who fulfilled mom’s every wish with limitless compassion. We are also grateful for the care provided by Patsy Vickers and Ruthanne Ivey. Our family extends a heartfelt thanks to Dr. Kirkpatrick, Dr. Ritter, the Palliative Care team and the VON Nurses. We will be forever grateful for your care.
Visitation for our Mom will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney. A Funeral Mass will held at 10 a.m. on Thursday at St. Joseph Church, North Sydney with Rev. Patrick
O’Neill officiating. Burial will take place in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice Palliative Care of Cape Breton. Online condolences may be sent to www.wjdooley.com.
“Mom, your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure. You are loved beyond words and missed without measure.”
