Elizabeth MacARTHUR

Elizabeth MacARTHUR

MacARTHUR, Elizabeth M. (Sutherland)
Caribou River

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to all. At the age of 79, she passed away peacefully with her family by her side in the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born July 5, 1937 in Caribou River, she was a daughter of the late Austin & Doris (Hansford) Sutherland. Betty was raised on the farm in Caribou River where she grew to love it and the outdoors, never shying away from hardwork. She became a single mother at an early age due to the sudden death of her husband. She worked for Waverley Construction and later for Northumberland Ferries from 1967 – 1984. She had a love of music and was very talented at playing several musical instruments, her most prominent being the fiddle, but her greatest love in life was her family and family gatherings. Betty is survived by her daughter, Marlene (Camille), Heathbell; son, Wilfred (Donna), Heathbell; grandsons, Joshua, Wolfville and Jeremy, Toronto; brothers, Gerald (Darrell), Caribou River; Aulden (Florence), Lyons Brook; Larry (Mary Louise), Caribou River; sisters, Phyllis Lewis (Dave), Acton, Ontario; Diane Demone (Lormer), Acton, Ontario; and very special friends, Harold & Pauline Bartlett, Peggy’s Cove. She was predeceased by her husband, Harold “Bud”; brothers, Amel & Ricky. Visitation will be held 2-4 & 7-9 PM Thursday in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral will take place 11 AM Friday from First Presbyterian Church, Pictou, with Jacquie Ross officiating. A reception will follow. Donations in her memory may be made to the Palliative Care Unit, Aberdeen Hospital or the Glen Haven Manor.
You’ve always been there Mom and loved me to the end
My best friend, at times my only friend
So with my heart and soul
I love you too, my friend
