REV. G. EDWARD "ED" MILLER
MILLER, REV. G. EDWARD "ED" - Rev. G. Edward "Ed" Miller, 95 years of age, of East Cumberland Lodge, Pugwash, passed away on Wednesday, April 14, 2004 at the lodge. Born in Weldon, N.B., he was a son of the late Frederick & Ethel (Keirstead) Miller. As a child Rev. Miller lived for periods in Albert County, N.B., the U.S.A.; moving to Moncton in 1916. He was educated in different Moncton schools and at Acadia University, graduating with B.A. Th; in 1934; M.A.th;, 1935 and B.D., 1936. Rev. Miller served on summer pastorates in N.B. and N.S.: three years with the Postal Services; moving to Plaster Rock in 1945 as pastor of the United Baptist church there, then to Cody's Pastorate; to McAdam where he served in Rockland Drive U.B.C. While at Rockland Drive he took an interest in the Red Cross, being President on the local branch and chairman of the Blood Donor's clinic. As well as Young People ; Scouts Religious Training. He served as minister to Temple Baptist Church in Yarmouth, where he served twelve & a half years before coming to River Hebert pastorate from where he retired in 1980. Since his retirement he has served as interim pastor on occasion. Rev. Miller was a member of the Masonic Fraternity, belonging to Salisbury Lodge #20; A.F. & A.M. Walton chapter of Royal Arch Masons #12; Past Patron of Coronation Chapter #38, Order of Eastern Star; Past Grand Patron of the Grand Chapter of New Brunswick. Rev. Miller served on various Committees of the United Baptist Convention of the Atlantic Provinces as well in the Associations where he resided. He had a keen interest in Young People's work, organizing groups among the young members of the churches he served. Rev. Miller is survived by his brother, Rev. Kenneth Miller of Fredericton, N.B. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, the former Bessie Sinclair and a sister, Mabel. His funeral service was held from the First Baptist Church in Amherst on Saturday, April 17, 2004 with Rev. Byron Corkum & Rev. John Boyd officiating. Burial will take place in the Pine Hill Cemetery, Salisbury, N.B. later in the spring.
