John Daniel Hennessey, 56, passed away March 23, 2010 in Kindersley, Sask.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late John and Cecilia Hennessey.
John grew up in the Pier and graduated from Sydney Academy. After graduation, he enlisted in the armed forces. He served with the Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry for a number of years. He transferred to the air force and was stationed in Cold Lake, Alta.
John was an aircraft mechanic, machinist and welding technician. John participated in three tours of duty as a United Nations Peacekeeper in Cyprus, the Golan Heights and Egypt. John was rewarded with the Canadian Forces Decoration Rosette Bar, the U.N. Peacekeeping Service Medal, the U.N. Cyrpus Medal, the U.N. Disengagements Observation Force Medal and the U.N. Emergency Force Middle East Medal.
After a short return to Cape Breton, he went out west and settled in Sask. He was employed in Kindersley with Boychuk's Welding Fabrication.
John's greatest reward to himself was the opportunity to serve his country, make a difference and live his childhood dreams. John was a father, brother, uncle, friend and a dedicated and very proud soldier.
John leaves behind his grandchildren, as well his son, Jason, Alberta and daughter, Corilea, British Columbia. Also surviving are sisters, Maureen (Chad), Colleen (Kevin); brothers, Barry (Sue), Jerry (Jen), Terry (Bernadine), as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition, special friends, Jim, Mike, Jo-Ann and Laura in Kindersley.
There will be no visitation, cremation has taken place. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Friday, April 9, 2010 at Holy Redeemer Chuch with Rev. Errol MacDonald officiating. Reception to follow after mass at Colleen's home, 247 Robert St. at 2 p.m. Burial at Resurrection Cemetery.
