The family of Diane L. Buckland Nearing, announce her peaceful passing July 17, 2010, at St. Michael's Palliative Care, Lethbridge, Alta. Diane will be greatly missed by her mother, Maxine Buckland; sons, David and Thomas; sister, Jane (Bart) Heine; niece, Laura and nephew, Gordon (Bonnie); brother, Jerry (Elizabeth) Buckland and nephew, Daniel; brother-in-law, David (Paula) Nearing, Reserve Mines and sister-in-law, Marion (Bill) Turner, Howie Centre; nieces, Amandah and Megan and nephew, Brandon.
Diane was predeceased by her husband, Gregory Nearing in 2009 and her father, Paul Henry Buckland in 2008.
Diane was a faithful and loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend. She possessed a remarkable curiosity and wonder for all creation and sought the truth therein. She shared this passion with all who knew her. Diane completed her Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws at the University of Calgary. In 1987, she was called to the Bar of the Northwest Territories where she worked as a Legislative Counsel for the Department of Justice until 2003. She then joined the Department of Justice in Nunavut where she served as Director of the Nunavut Legislative Division until her retirement in 2008. Diane also served as a President of the Association of Legislative Council in Canada. She was held in great esteem by all with whom she worked. The Funeral Liturgy was held July 21, 2010 at St. Augustine Anglican Church, Lethbridge, presided over by Rev. Chris Roth with internment at Mountain View Cemetery.
