It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Jennie Morrison of Glace Bay. Jennie passed away peacefully Monday, Oct. 25, 2010, at Seaview Manor where she had been a resident for the past two years.
Born in Glace Bay, April 29, 1908, Jennie was the daughter of the late Alexander and Sarah Jane (MacLeod) McDonald and stepmother, Sara (MacCuish) McDonald.
She was a longtime member of the United Church of Canada and in more recent years was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church, Sydney.
In Jennie's earlier years, before marrying the love of her life Layton Morrison, she was employed as a commercial clerk with Maritime Tel & Tel.
She had a great sense of humour and a very quick wit. Her greatest enjoyment in life was providing a wonderful home for her loving family. Jennie also enjoyed her outings with her son Harold and visits from her family and friends.
She will be sadly missed by her son, Harold, Glace Bay; cousins, Catherine Zellmer, Betty Engstrand, both of Florida, Inglis MacAulay, Clarence Miller, both of Glace Bay, Eileen McDonald, Westmount, Wally McDougall, Halifax; nieces, nephews and friends.
Besides her parents, and stepmother she was predeceased by her husband, Layton Morrison (1990).
Visitation for Jennie will be held Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Friday in the funeral home chapel with celebrants Martha MacDonald, CDM of Gordon United Church, Reserve Mines, and Rev. Bob Lyle, of Bethel Presbyterian Church, Sydney officiating. A private interment will follow in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney.
