It is with God’s mercy and blessings and the deep sorrow of his brothers and sisters that we announce the passing into God’s hands of Joseph Anthony Young, formerly of 91 Roaches Rd., New Waterford, and most recently of Braemore Home, Sydney River, in his 63rd year, on Nov. 4, 2010.
Born in New Waterford in 1947, Joey was the beloved son of the late Joseph E. and Sarah Catherine (Gouthro) Young, formerly of Roaches Road.
Joey received his early education up to grade 11 at Mount Carmel Elementary and MCHS, whereupon in the eleventh grade he went to vocational school and took the machinist trade. Upon his graduation from CBVS, he became employed with Devco and worked for 12 years at #12 colliery where he was underground in the fire. Joey also worked at the wash plant off Grand Lake Road in Sydney.
In his early years, he loved to play hockey and baseball and remained an avid Detroit Red Wings and Screaming Eagles fan. He also attended the horse races in his younger years and was at the track often. Joey enjoyed a good game of 45s or tarabish. He relished ordering out ... he would order for you.
Joey is survived by his three sisters, Mary Aitken, Dolena (Ricky) Hogan, Trickie (Steve) Madden; three brothers, Eugene (Lowell), Alex (Heather) and Pius. He is also survived by nine nieces, five nephews, six great-nieces and three great-nephews.
Joey carried a heavy burden on his journey for a very long time. He came from happiness and the love of God. Now he is gone back to God and greater happiness; his journey well done!
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration will be held Saturday, Nov. 6 at 1 p.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Carmel Cemetery, New Waterford.
