NICKERSON, Frances Florida - 94, of Tusket Falls, Yarmouth Co., passed away peacefully on October 31, 2010, at Nakile Home for Special Care, with her family by her side. Frances was born in Gavelton, Yarmouth Co., on November 11, 1915, and was the only daughter of Watson and Annie W. (Gavel) Raynard. In 1936, she married Milledge F. Nickerson of Summerville. She was an avid gardener. Reading, cooking, local and family history were her other passions. She spent countless hours roaming the woods and shores picking berries and gathering wildflowers. Frances was a past employee of the Yarmouth Vanguard and a long time volunteer of the Red Cross and the Canadian Cancer Society. She was a member of the Gavelton Baptist Church. She was a founding member of the Tusket River Environmental Protection Association, Argyle Municipality Historical & Genealogical Society and the Good Neighbours’ Club. She was also actively involved with the Lake Vaughn Ladies’ Auxiliary, Women’s Missionary Society, Tusket Lakes Women’s Institute and the Greenlawn Cemetery Company. She lived most of her life in her beloved Tusket Falls, where her door was open to all. Frances will be remembered mostly for her kind and generous nature and her belief in treating everyone equally, always looking for the good in others. She is survived by sons, Milledge (Jean), Summerville; Paul (Carol), Tusket Falls; Don, Tusket Falls; daughters, Phyllis (Alton) Hayes, Tusket Falls; Carol (Gerald) Jacquard, Tusket Falls; brother, David, New Glasgow; seven grandsons, seven granddaughters, five great-grandsons, 14 great-granddaughters, one step great-grandson, one great great-grandson; two great great-granddaughters, several nieces and nephews, three cousins and her Nakile family. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Milledge and brother, Thomas. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Yarmouth. Visitation took place Wednesday, November 3 from 7-9 p.m. Funeral service was held Thursday, November 4 at 2 p.m., Pastor Eric Whitehouse officiated. Both were held in Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed in Greenlawn Cemetery, Gavelton. Family flowers only, please. Donations in memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
