Peacefully passed away November 14, 2010, in Yellowknife, N.W.T., with her family by her side.
Darlene was born July 7, 1934, in Charlottetown, P.E.I., and lived most of her adult life on Upper Hillsboro Street. After an illness left her unable to care for herself she moved to Yellowknife to be close to her daughter Marjorie and her family.
Darlene was predeceased by her husband, Donald Matheson; her devoted parents, Lyall and Janie Gurney; and her brother, Bill Gurney.
Memories of Darlene are gently held by her grandchildren, Corey and Amy Maund; her daughters, Marjorie (Gary Maund), Yellowknife, Cindy (Richard Parke), P.E.I., and Donna (Garth Spinney), N.S. Darlene also leaves to mourn her brother-in-law, Kier Matheson, Australia; her sister-in-law, Ruth Gurney; niece, Ronata Baglole; nephew, Campbell Gurney; and her aunts, Etta Thomson and Erma Nicolson of P.E.I.
The family extends heartfelt appreciation to the staff at the Aven Manor in Yellowknife for the warm and loving care provided to Darlene.
A celebration of Darlene's life will be held at the home of Cindy Matheson and Richard Parke at 52 Kennedy Road, Stratford, on December 5 from 2 p.m. on.
